Bruins Need Extra Frames to Get Past Empires
The Vancouver Bruins topped the Southern California Empires, 9-7, in Semi-Pro Baseball Circuit action at Empires Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Vancouver pitcher and Polk City, Iowa, native Wil Monroy. David Martinez, now 2-1, was credited with the win in 3 innings of relief. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. At 45-37, the Bruins claim second place in the West Division.

Vancouver won the game in part because of Trace Thomas. The catcher ripped a grand slam home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Bruins ahead, 9-5. For the game, Thomas had 1 double and 1 home run in 6 at-bats.

"Always feels extra good winning this kind of game," said Thomas.
