Atlanta Edges Boston, 2-1
|
Atlanta Pilots pitcher Kirk Garcia was in top form, leading his team past the Boston Shamrocks, 2-1. The winning pitcher was Garcia, now 1-0. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. Tim Christensen earned the save for Atlanta, his 4th.
Ricky Mayhall had a big solo home run for the Pilots in the bottom of the second inning. With Atlanta leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from Edwin Quevedo and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pilots ahead, 2-0.
"I just tried to stick to my strengths," said Garcia.
Atlanta has a record of 5-2.
