Atlanta ruined an otherwise fine effort from Justin Barbee by toppling Boston, 3-2. The Boston pitcher threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Tim Christensen picked up the win in relief. Bob Kiesow took the loss for Boston. The win gives Atlanta a record of 4-2.
Atlanta got a clutch hit from Jim Wermter. The designated hitter launched a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Atlanta skipper Erik Swartzwelder. "I can't complain."
