Pilots Lose to Sun Sox, 5-0
|
The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves.
The Miami Sun Sox took Atlanta pitcher Jack Bayley's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Sun Sox Stadium. The final score had Miami getting past the Pilots, 5-0. Bayley went 5.1 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 5. Miami reliever Mario Valdovinos picked up the win. Jack Bayley took the loss for Atlanta. Steve Rossi closed out the game, earning his 8th save.
The Pilots had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Sun Sox going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the slugging right fielder Howie Park came to the plate. Park hit a solo home run on a 1-1 slider from Atlanta hurler Jack Bayley. It was Park's 18th home run of the year.
Said Atlanta manager Erik Swartzwelder: "When you don't score, it's never a good thing."
The Sun Sox now have a record of 33-36.
