The Denver Cutthroats overcame a pretty good performance by El Paso third baseman Gary Payer, beating the Diablos, 9-4, at Inferno Field. Payer hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The last-place Cutthroats own a record of 16-30.

Denver used a well-timed hit by Kyle Prater to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Cutthroats ahead, 4-3. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"We came out aggressive," said Cutthroats manager Seth Moland-Kovash. "We came out swinging the bats."
