Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Newark Eagles got the win.
Vancouver got a terrific performance from pitcher Gouki Miyagi, but it wasn't enough to beat the Newark Eagles. Newark won the Bruins Stadium contest, 4-2. Miyagi threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Newark reliever John Roe snagged the win, upping his record to 1-3. Josh Lurte shouldered the loss.
Newark won the game in part because of Dave McCune. The catcher ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Eagles ahead, 4-2. For the game, McCune had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"A great team win and something real positive we can build on," said McCune after the game.
The victory gives Newark a record of 27-23.
