Rick Bowen, who finished 4th in the SPBC in wins with 11 in 2009, had a strong outing for the Vacaville Steelheads against the Southern California Empires at Ballpark of Vacaville. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 6-3 win. Chandler Storey earned save number 3. The first-place Steelheads bumped their record to 28-15.

Matt Tomasso helped out the Vacaville cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the shortstop drew 1 walk. He drove in 2 runs.

"Rick was the difference maker. He was emotionally under control, had good stuff and makeup," said Vacaville manager John Ennis.
