Aztecas Come Back Late, Nip Rollers
|
The Mexico City Aztecas earned a close win over the Las Vegas Rollers, thanks in part to Danny Newberry. The Mexico City right-hander played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Newberry, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 12 and giving up 3 walks. Mexico City, at 22-14, occupies third place in the Central Division.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jhong-shun Xú? The 34-year old left fielder Xú stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put Mexico City up, 3-2. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 2 doubles and 1 single.
"It'd be nice to win by four or five runs," Newberry said, "instead of holding our breath the whole game."
