Southern California catcher Francisco Ruiz was instrumental in helping the Empires triumph, 6-3, over the Vancouver Bruins. Ruiz went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Picking up the win was John Candle. He went 6.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. The right--hander struck out 7 and walked 4. Southern California has run its win streak to 4 straight.
It could have been a different outcome for Southern California, had it not been for Jose Pellerin, the 31-year old shortstop . Pellerin contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Southern California up, 5-2.
