Calgary center fielder Jose Alferez had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Alferez went 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2, even as Vacaville beat the Caracals, 8-7. Keith Shull closed it out for Vacaville, earning his 2nd save. The Caracals, now 13-13, have lost 4 straight.

In the top of the third, 32-year old right fielder Adam Martin hit a run-scoring double. The 5th double of the season for the Vacaville right fielder put the Steelheads on top, 1-0.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Martin said. "We did a good job of that today."
