Eagles Thwart Empires, 4-3
|
Newark pitcher Nick Wilder had a large part in his team beating the Southern California Empires, 4-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Wilder, the winner, moves to 3-0. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 9 and giving up 5 walks. John Roe finished the game for Newark and earned his 3rd save.
Jonathan Lieberman had a big run-scoring triple for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Newark leading 3-2 and a runner on 1st, he got a sinker from Dustin Clark and swatted a triple to right. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 4-2.
After the game, Newark manager Hector Pina applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
The win for the Eagles lifted their record to 13-10.
