Victory Pushes Caracals Record to 13-9
|
The Calgary Caracals managed to get by the Detroit Chargers, 4-3, at Chargers Field. Calgary pitcher Ricky Leyva set himself apart with his performance. Leyva, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 4, and allowing 3 runs. The save was Jon Snowden's, his 7th.
Calgary used the timely hitting of Jon Schmitt to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Caracals on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Ricky gave us a really strong effort," said Calgary manager Jason Benn.
The Caracals, now 13-9, have won 4 in a row.
