Southern California Empires starter Jason Schiavo pitched a strong game against the Newark Eagles at Eagles Park, leading the Empires to victory, 7-5. Schiavo got the win, improving to 1-2. He gave up 4 hits and walked 8 over 7 innings. He allowed 3 runs. Gary Burget closed it out for Southern California, earning his 3rd save.

Southern California used a well-timed hit by Jose Pellerin to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Empires ahead, 4-2. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

Empires manager Jimmy Brown raved about Schiavo after the game. "I thought Jason was 'lights out.'"
