Southern California starter Jason Schiavo pitched well against the Detroit Chargers at Empires Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-4. Justin Martin snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-1 on the season. Dave Kaminski suffered the loss. The Chargers fall to 7-10 and continue their rocky start to the 2012 season.

The Empires were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 30-year old third baseman Cody Stone landed a big blow. He turned a 3-1 fastball from Dave Kaminski into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Empires Stadium denizens into a frenzy and sent the Empires home with a thrilling 5-4 win.

"What a rush!" said a smiling Schiavo.
