Ruiz Delivers Walk-Off Win for Empires
|
The Southern California Empires picked up a win at Empires Stadium, downing the Mexico City Aztecas, 2-1, in 11 innings. On the mound for Southern California was right-hander Jason Schiavo, who played a pivotal role in the win. The winner was Southern California reliever Gary Burget, now 1-0. The loser was Steve Purnell. The loss makes Mexico City 2-1.
The Empires got a clutch hit from catcher Francisco Ruiz. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Empires.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Southern California manager Jimmy Brown.
