The Drillers grabbed a win, 4-2, at Capitals Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Ottawa pitcher Ron Cahill. Cahill went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Edmonton reliever Jeff Shaw picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jamie Stewart was tagged with the loss. Edmonton, now 2-0, is setting the league on fire so far.

John Stoner delivered a big hit for Edmonton. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Drillers ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

Stoner attributed the win to his team's "concerted effort."
