With 6-3 Win, Mavericks Go to 8-6

The Houston Mavericks racked up a win at Mavericks Ballpark, bumping off the Denver Cutthroats, 6-3. Ricardo Santana, who started for Houston, pitched effectively for his team. Santana, the winner, moves to 2-0. He threw 8.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 3 walks. The Cutthroats, 7-7, continue their so-so start to the 2012 season.
The Mavericks got a big at-bat from left fielder Jonathan Thornton. For the game, Thornton went 3-5 with a triple and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 6th double of the season gave Houston a 2-0 lead.
"I was able to really locate my pitches tonight," said Santana.
