Gubbels Hurls No-Hitter Saturday, September 10th , 2011 Yuma's Jimmy Gubbels was right on the mark at Yuma Grounds in a sensational no-hitter against the Dallas Bulls, shutting them down, 4-0. Gubbels chalked up 11 strikeouts and gave up 5 walks in a game that was instantly one of the highlights of the season. The brash right-hander, who is known for a confidence that sometimes borders on arrogance, told reporters afterward that he "was the best pitcher in the league today." Yuma skipper Harry Wagner said in his postgame interview that Gubbels "tossed a masterpiece." "Jimmy likes to talk but it ain't bragging if you can back it up," he said. "Today he certainly did just that." To date Gubbels is 6-6 in 11 starts with a 2.89 ERA and has 88 strikeouts in 74.2 innings. View Boxscore |
