Wills Torches Mavericks for 5 Hits Wednesday, July 13th , 2011 The 5th time is the charm -- at least for Colby Wills. The second baseman for the Yuma Gnomes hit the milestone against the El Paso Mavericks, helping his club to a narrow 7-6 victory. Wills finished with a 5-for-7 line at the plate. "Wills was a tough out," El Paso manager Jeremy Vance told the press in the postgame interview. "If it weren't for him, I think we had this one." Colby Wills singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Ryan Matlock in the 8th, singled in the 9th, struck out in the 11th and hit an RBI single in the 12th. So far this season, Wills is hitting .271 with 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored. He has 26 hits in 96 at-bats and a .327 OBP. View Boxscore |
