|
With center fielder Darnell Phillips leading the charge, the Tampa Bay Thunder defeated the Miami Sun Sox, 5-4, at Sun Sox Stadium. Phillips, who led the PBC in slugging percentage with .584 in 2008, slugged 2 home runs. Picking up the save was 35-year old right-handed pitcher Mel Palma. The winning streak has now reached 6 games for Tampa Bay.
Bobby Walker, who finished 5th in the PBC in innings pitched with 158.2 in 2008, took Miami hurler Shelby Crabtree deep in the top of the ninth. His solo home run put the Thunder on top, 5-4. In all, Walker had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
Tampa Bay manager Rick Roberts praised his team's "businesslike approach."
