Warriors Prevail, 6-4, Over New York City
|
The Washington Warriors defeated the New York City Blues, 6-4. Doing his part was designated hitter Bob Luallen, who went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Bobby Brown, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-0. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 8 and walking 1. Gennaro Velo nailed down his 6th save.
Had Luallen not come through in the bottom of the seventh, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Luallen hit a run-scoring single. The Warriors took the lead, 5-4, and never looked back.
"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Luallen.
The triumph puts Washington at 11-9 for the season.
