Shamrocks End Suarez Streak Friday, September 18th , 2009 Toronto (R) third baseman Jorge Suarez came into today's game against the Boston (R) Shamrocks on a hot streak. He left on a cold one. The Shamrocks did their jobs well, beating the Toronto (R) Titans, 4-2, and holding Suarez hitless to snap his 23-game hitting streak. The 18-year-old third baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-4, telling reporters only that he "came up short." "What Jorge did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Titans manager Erik Tolbert. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 23 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play." This year, Suarez has socked 78 hits in 248 at-bats for a .315 average with 6 home runs. He is getting on base at a .381 pace and his totals also include 29 RBIs and 34 runs scored. |
