Liberty Flame Out Against Brink, Titans Sunday, August 22nd , 2010 Jim Brink of the Long Beach Titans was on top of his game. The 37-year-old tantalized the Manhattan Liberty with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 6-0. "He had the changeup working," Manhattan manager Roman Sandoval said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower." The Long Beach hurler had 11 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 4 hits in his complete-game effort. Brink told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league." "If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said. To date this season, Brink has registered 13 starts, 7-6 won-lost mark, 5.18 ERA, 81.2 IP, 89 strikeouts and 37 walks. Opposing teams have hit .323 against him. View Boxscore View Game Log |
