Zapata Outstanding, No-Hits Eagles
Friday, September 17th , 2010
The Detroit Chargers were just hoping for a solid outing from Victor Zapata. Instead, they got something special.

The 35-year-old hurler tossed a no-hitter against the Newark Eagles, helping the Chargers take the 6-0 win.

"I felt good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Chargers. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I wasn't nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special."

Zapata's repertoire has a fastball, changeup, and knuckle curve, and he used it all to full advantage, keeping the Newark hitters off balance all game long. The Detroit hurler fanned 9 and walked 2 in his history-making performance.

"His fastball looked about the size of a watermelon seed and it hissed at you as it passed," Newark manager Elijah Jackson joked after the game.

Checking out his stats for the year, Zapata has racked up 8 wins and 3 losses in 19 starts, posted a 2.45 ERA, and struck out 142 batters in 132 innings.
