Thunder Turn Back Diablos, 7-5
|
Despite a great performance by El Paso right fielder Ben Mullaly, the Tampa Bay Thunder defeated the Diablos by the score of 7-5 at The Thunder Bowl. Mullaly went 2-3 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Dave Miller got the win, improving to 10-5. He worked 6.1 innings, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. Earning the save was Diego Rodriquez. He's now cashed in 23 of 24 save opportunities.
Kengo Miyake had a big bases-clearing triple for the Thunder in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Tampa Bay leading 4-3 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Mark Brown, who is the top prospect in the Diablos organization, and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunder ahead, 7-3.
"Being in first place now is good," said Miyake. "Being in first at the end of the season is better. That's our goal."
The Thunder, at 53-22, have now won 4 straight.
