Quinn Goes Deep Twice in 5-4 Empires Win
The Newark Eagles and Southern California Empires provided some drama for the home crowd.

The Southern California Empires turned back the Newark Eagles, 5-4, at Eagles Park. Ian Quinn, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Jimmy Gubbels earned the win to go to 5-7. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts in 6 innings of work. Pete Block, who finished 3rd in the in ERA with 2.36 last year, earned the save for Southern California.

With Southern California leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Quinn hit a fastball from Miguel Moreno for a grand slam home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Empires ahead, 5-0.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Southern California manager Jose Perez. "It's usually not just one thing."

With the win, Southern California has a record of 26-28. Newark falls to 20-34.
