Joe Jenkins was a vital contributor to the 6-2 Detroit victory over Winnipeg. The Chargers left fielder went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Carlos Rojas snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Dave Lewis suffered the loss. Detroit has now won 3 in a row.

Jenkins had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a 0-1 sinker from Dave Lewis, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Chargers a 5-2 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Jenkins.

"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Jenkins told the Detroit Today. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
