Cutthroats Use Late Surge to Win
The Denver Cutthroats grabbed a win, 4-2, over the Las Vegas Aces at Caesers Palace Colosseum. Denver right fielder Tom Smolar went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Mike Green, who finished 4th in the in saves with 11 in 2008, nailed down the save. The loss makes the Aces 5-11.

Smolar had a game-changing double in the top of the eighth. On a 1-0 sinker from Adam Nightingale, he banged a 2-run double to left, giving the Cutthroats a 4-2 lead. It was the 3rd double of the year for Smolar.

Said losing manager Julian Riegel: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
