Pelicans Win Division Championship Series Friday, October 2nd , 2009 It's a sweet sweep for the St. Petersburg Pelicans and they have won the Division Championship Series. The Manchester Monarchs were not able to keep pace with the Pelicans and dropped the series in short order, losing, 8-3, in the deciding game. "This wasn't really the effort we hoped for," said Manchester manager Allberto Menagem. It's now on to the Amateur Circuit Cup for St. Petersburg after their 2-0 series win. Leading the way for the winners was second baseman Mike Smith, who was named MVP. For the series, Smith hit .444 with a .444 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 1 RBI and scored 2 runs. The St. Petersburg Pelicans will play against the Albuquerque Coyotes in the next round. Albuquerque had a bye in the Division Championship Series.
