Hafer Fashions Shutout Against Pilots
Tuesday, September 29th , 2009
Nick Hafer of the Toronto Titans was on top of his game.
The 39-year-old tantalized the Atlanta Pilots with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 3-0.
"He had the changeup working," Atlanta manager Andrew Scharbach said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Toronto hurler had 10 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 6 hits in his complete-game effort.
Hafer told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
On the season, Hafer has a 8-11 record with a 4.30 ERA.
