Blues Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel
|
The New York City Blues claimed a close win over the Washington Warriors, due in large part to Jim Johnson. The New York City right-hander pitched a great game to secure the 1-0 win. Johnson, now 6-1, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing no runs. New York City, at 34-46, sits in 5th place in the Atlantic Division.
The Blues got a big at-bat from catcher Josh Leavens. For the game, Leavens was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 6th home run of the season gave New York City a 1-0 lead.
"When you are able to locate the ball, good things are going to happen," said Johnson.
