Byrd Powers Thunder to 5-2 Win
The home team gave the crowd at The Thunder Bowl something to cheer about.

Boosted by the 3-hit performance of Jesse Byrd, who finished 3rd in the PBC in doubles with 31 in 2003, the Tampa Bay Thunder defeated the Washington Warriors, 5-2. Kevin Schuerger picked up the win, improving his season record to 10-6. He struck out 5 in 7 innings. Jon Flores notched his 13th save in 17 chances.

Second Baseman Curt Mattson made an impact for Tampa Bay, when he swatted a run-scoring double off Jose Giraldo in the bottom of the fourth. For the contest, Mattson was 2-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"This was a nice win for us," said Mattson. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."

With the win, Tampa Bay upped its record to 52-17.
