The St. Louis Lions picked up a win at The Lions Hearth, knocking off the Denver Cutthroats, 5-4. On the mound for St. Louis was right-hander Jose Giraldo. He played a key role in the triumph. The win gives St. Louis a season record of 37-30.
Rusty Carr had a big 2-run double for the Lions in the bottom of the fifth inning. With St. Louis leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from Ben Barger, who is tied for 3rd in the WC in complete games with 4, and swatted a double to right. It was his 14th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Lions ahead, 5-1.
Said Denver manager Joe Peters: "They just got the better of us."
