Blues Pull Out Late Win, 7-6
|
The New York City Blues downed the St. Louis Lions, 7-6. The hitting star was right fielder Dan Stricklin. Stricklin went 3 for 4 with 3 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Blues. New York City reliever Matt Baird picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Ze-dong Phan was saddled with the loss. New York City's record now stands at 22-27, placing them 4th in the Atlantic Division.
Malachi Thompson was the walk-off hero for New York City. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Blues designated hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Blues manager Cole Hobson wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
