Southern California pitcher Paul Rudolph had a large part in his team beating the Newark Eagles, 10-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The first-place Empires have won 4 in a row.

Matt Bevan had a big 2-run home run for the Empires in the top of the first inning. With Southern California leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he sized up a splitter from two-time All-Star Oscar Loza and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Empires on top, 3-0.

"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Southern California manager Jose Perez.
