Newark got a decent performance from pitcher Tom Thompson, but it wasn't enough to beat the Ottawa Capitals. Ottawa won the Capitals Stadium contest, 4-3. Thompson threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball for the losing team. The 4th-place Capitals lifted their record to 23-25.

The Capitals got a big at-bat from second baseman Jerry Green. For the game, Green went 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Ottawa a 3-1 lead.
