Chargers Squelch Aztecas Offense in Shutout Win
The Detroit Chargers defeated the Mexico City Aztecas, 4-0, in Semi-Pro Baseball Circuit action at Chargers Field. Detroit pitcher Sibrand Smits had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Smits, now 1-0. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 7. Noe Lopez nailed down the save.

Peter Fischer had a big 3-run home run for the Chargers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Nick Wilder, who won the Rookie of the Year Award in 2007, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Chargers on top, 4-0.

"Feels good to get the job done," Smits said after the game.

Detroit, at 12-4, is off to a blistering start.
