The Houston Mavericks racked up a win at Mavericks Ballpark, bumping off the Los Angeles Knights, 6-2. Ismael Villafan, who started for Houston, pitched effectively for his team. Villafan, the winner, moves to 3-1. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 10 and giving up 2 walks. Ricardo Santana closed out the game, earning his 4th save.

Joe Higgins hit a 2-run home run off Matthew Steele in the bottom of the first, which put the Mavericks ahead, 2-1. In addition to the homer, Higgins had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.

Los Angeles, at 4-12, is off to a poor start in 2009.
