Fans of the Atlanta Pilots who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Atlanta win over the visiting Tampa Bay Thunder, 4-1. Bobby Brown started for the home team against Kevin Schuerger. Bobby Brown earned accolades for his performance. Brown yielded 1 run over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. His record improves to 1-0. Francisco Chavez picked up the save, his 1st.

The Pilots got a big at-bat from center fielder Mike Stephens. For the game, Stephens was 2-4 with a double, while adding 4 RBI. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 1st double of the season gave Atlanta a 3-0 lead.
