23-Game Streak Ends, Putthoff Hitless Tuesday, July 15th , 2008 Late in the game, all eyes in PBC Rookie Development Complex were on Joe Putthoff as he stepped into the batter box. His 23-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Putthoff, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end. If there was a silver lining for Putthoff, it was that his Boston (R) Shamrocks won the game anyway, stopping the Salt Lake City (R) Coyotes by the score of 3-1. "Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Putthoff told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 23 straight games. It's something I will always remember." In his season totals Putthoff has 8 home runs and a .434 batting average. |
