Apollos Torpedoed by Miles in 7-0 Loss to Yuma
Sunday, September 28th , 2008
Ray Miles of the Yuma Gnomes was on top of his game.

The 34-year-old tantalized the Houston Apollos with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 7-0.

"He had the changeup working," Houston manager Tyler Waak said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Yuma hurler had 10 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 6 hits in his complete-game effort.

Miles told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This season, Miles has rung up 5 wins and no losses in 5 games. He has an ERA of 1.17 and has fanned 53 batters in 38.1 innings.
