Las Vegas Goes Hitless Against Steele
Sunday, July 27th , 2008
Matthew Steele really did a number on the Las Vegas Aces at Keystones Stadium -- and that number was zero.

The Philadelphia Keystones hurler had what he later called "one of the best moments of my life," tossing a no-hitter and leading the Keystones to victory, 2-0.

"This is something special," Steele said. "I knew from the fifth inning that I had a no-hitter working. I tried to get it out of my mind, but you just can't. They have too many scoreboards in the park. They're everywhere you look."

The right-hander faced only 29 batters in the no-hit gem, struck out 12 and walked 2.

"We simply couldn't get any wood on the ball," Las Vegas manager Julian Riegel said when asked about the epic performance. "Steele was brilliant out there. He certainly had our number."

In 11 starts this year, Steele has posted 8 wins while suffering 2 losses. He has pitched 80 innings, allowed 48 hits, struck out 71 and has a 2.70 ERA.
