Pickens Slugs Thunder to 5-4 Win
|
Tampa Bay right fielder George Pickens picked up 4 ribbies while helping his team beat back the New York City Blues, 5-4. Bobby Walker, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 2-1. The victory makes Tampa Bay 7-4, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 2008.
With Tampa Bay trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the third, Pickens hit a cutter from Keith Higdon for a 3-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Thunder ahead, 4-3.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Pickens said.
