The Washington Warriors could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Gerard Beairsto into a win. Instead, the Chicago Blackhawks prevailed, 3-1, in 11 innings. Beairsto threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball. Isaiah Hoffman, who finished 5th in the EC in saves with 12 last year, earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 4 innings. He upped his record to 2-1. Chicago's record now stands at 38-45, placing them 4th in the Eastern Circuit.
Chicago used a clutch hit from Jared Bruggeman to get the win. The third baseman thumped a 2-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Blackhawks in front, 3-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a whopper.
"This win should put a little bounce in our step," said Bruggeman.
