Titans Fall Short, 3-2, at Washington
|
The Washington Warriors earned a close win over the Toronto Titans, thanks in part to Gerard Beairsto. The Washington left-hander, who is tied for 4th in the EC in quality starts with 12, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Beairsto, now 8-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The win puts Washington at 44-27 this season.
The Warriors got a big at-bat from center fielder Jon Schmitt. For the game, Schmitt was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 14th double of the season gave Washington a 2-1 lead.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Washington skipper Barry Lolicht. "I can't complain."
