New York City Beaten, 7-5, by Denver
|
The Denver Cutthroats beat the New York City Blues, 7-5, at Blues Field. The win was due in part to left fielder Daniel Gilmore, who was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Denver reliever Zach Haskell picked up the win, upping his record to 5-4. Bubba Ostendorf absorbed the loss. The Cutthroats move to 27-16 with the win, while the Blues drop to 18-25.
Denver used the timely hitting of Dewey Duggan to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cutthroats on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Duggan.
