Mavericks Clonk Blackhawks, 5-2
|
The Houston Mavericks beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 5-2. Houston pitcher and Aurora, Colorado, native Luke Whalen led the way. Kevin Phillips notched his 10th save of the season. The Mavericks are now 27-14, while the Blackhawks fall to 15-26.
Tim DeVries had a big run-scoring double for the Mavericks in the top of the fifth inning. With Houston leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Robin Ollson, who led the EC in wins with 13 last year, and swatted a double to center. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mavericks ahead, 2-0.
"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Houston manager Kevin Read.
