Conditions were not ideal but Houston and New York City were able to put their game in the books.

Houston Mavericks starter Luke Whalen pitched well against the New York City Blues at Mavericks Ballpark, leading his team to a win, 5-3. Houston is second in the Western Circuit with a record of 24-13.

Houston took a 4-3 lead on Jorge Nunez's 9th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Nunez hit in the bottom of the seventh, left New York City pitcher Bubba Ostendorf visibly frustrated.

"The team always comes first," Nunez told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
