Late Rally by Mavericks Secures 6-4 Win
|
The Houston Mavericks downed the Washington Warriors, 6-4, at Warriors Park. Danny Scofield led the way, going 1-for-1 for Houston. Luke Whalen was the winner. Over 7 innings, he yielded 4 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Kevin Phillips collected his 7th save.
Scofield had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 0-1 splitter from Jose Ortiz, he banged a 3-run home run to right-center, giving the Mavericks a 6-4 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Scofield.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Scofield, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
With the win, the Mavericks have a record of 21-12.
