189 Strikeouts by Waggoner Breaks Record
Tuesday, September 18th , 2007
"Long live the king" echoed throughout Capitals Stadium today when David Waggoner of the Newark Eagles set a new mark for strikeouts in a single season, surpassing the old record held by Tim King. The new strikeout king logged strikeout number 189 and put his name in the league record book. Speaking with the press after his epic, record-making game, Waggoner related, "I never set it as a goal to lead the league in strikeouts. My job isn't to strike guys out, it's to get them out, sometimes by striking them out."
So far this year, Waggoner has made 20 starts, tossed 144 innings, struck out 189 batters and walked 58. His record is 6-10 with a 4.31 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .240 batting average.
